Chevron New Zealand

Although a leading marketer of fuels and lubricants in New Zealand, Chevron is better known through its network of Caltex and Challenge service stations.

  • New building in Ellerslie, Auckland
  • Open plan office space for 162 people over 3 floors
  • Interior design: Jasmax Architects Auckland - designer Alasdair Hood
  • Completed: December 2008

Cite supplied the Oson C by Antonio Citterio as seating for all staff workstations, boardrooms and meeting rooms. Jasmax designed the fitout, with Alasdair Hood leading the project team from the initial briefing through to completion. Despite challenging project timings, when it came to delivery of the furniture, all went smoothly. Cite even applied some quick thinking and inventive customisation to enable Chevron to fit Jean Prouvé’s Tabouret Bar Stools into the interior design.

Sustainability

While sustainability was carefully considered to fit with the base building’s 4 Green Star rating, the client didn't have a particular ESD strategy. However, the Jasmax design philosophy calls for responsible ESD specification wherever practicable, so there were many areas where ESD product was specified. Cite recommended products from Vitra, which conform to stringent European ESD standards.

Usability and Ergonomics

Chevron specified ergonomics as the key decision-maker for their seating. An in-house ergonomist based in Singapore consulted with the Auckland team, and the Oson C by Antonio Citterio for Vitra was specified for all staff and boardroom seating. Oson chairs are considered to be outstanding ergonomically – delivering a full range of adjustment, two backrest size options and the flexibility to up-spec for meeting and boardrooms.

"In terms of recommending them to my clients, I know the product is of extremely high quality, the warranties extend beyond those of many competitors. In terms of workplace furniture, aesthetically it stands tall against pretty much anything else available."

Alasdair Hood, Senior Interior Designer, Associate Director, Jasmax

"We set the bar very high when it came to choosing a desk chair for our staff; our ergonomic standards are non-negotiable and we worked hard to find a chair that met these standards and our budget expectations. Oson came out as a clear winner, and Cite didn’t fail us on the delivery."
