Euan J McKechnie
What is your background?
I studied design at the Wellington Polytechnic School of Design, and have had 30 years of commercial interior design experience in Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
I am also a Professional Member of the Designers Institute NZ. I established Cite in 2001.
Most coveted piece from Cite collection and why:
Alcove Highback Sofa. A sofa that can become a room of its own with in a room. This lends itself to the 'Citizen Office' philosophy from Vitra, of having various areas in an office in which to perform different functions. Alcove provides a quiet, comfortable area for infomal meetings or a private, relaxed workspace.
Favourite pieces that you own and why:
AC 4. Beauty – Antonio Citterio pays homage to classic 20th Century chair design.
Function – The chair incorporates the best of 21st century design, materials and technology, to create a comfortable chair that can be adapted for the size and needs of anyone that uses it. Environmental responsibility – an impressive 51% of its materials are recycled and 94% are recyclable. I think I’d choose the version with leather upholstery and aluminium armrests.
